Fine-tuned Process
Builder & Architect
Your builder and architect will be key to a great REZICAST® build (because our system doesn’t have any load bearing walls, you have significant flexibility in the design process!). If you’re looking to build in Canberra or the surrounding region (including rural blocks), we recommend speaking with Precast Homes. For other areas, please reach out to your preferred builder and let them know you’d like to build using the REZICAST® system rather than bricks. We fully support builders around the country to build with REZICAST®, including being onsite for the panel installation day.
Design & Approvals
There are two key options when it comes to design:
- Project home: most builders will feature pre-designed floorplans on their website. It there’s one you like that works for your block, this is usually the fastest and most cost effective option (builders have usually built this design many times before). Builders may also allow you to make minor tweaks to the design (within limits).
- Custom home: if you can’t find a plan that suits you needs, you can work with your builder & architect to design your dream home. This will ensure you get exactly what you want, though it is a longer process and will likely mean a higher build cost.
Before construction can commence, you will need both development approval (DA) and building approval (BA). Timelines for this can vary around the country, but if you are seeking to build a home that compiles with all local planning regulations, then approvals could be granted in as little as two to three weeks (this is known as a Complying Development Certificate). However if you’re seeking an exemption from these requirements, the process could take up to a year or more. Your builder/architect will be able to guide you though this process.
Getting to Lock-up
With approvals in place, your builder can commence construction. The first phase will involve getting the home to lock-up stage (i.e. walls, roof, windows and doors in place). The patented REZICAST® system allows this to be achieved in just 10 days.
Construction Completion
Following lock-up stage, the rest of the construction process takes place just as it would on a normal build.
